The Monkey Who Packed for Every Possible Weekend

An original fictional comedy from CyberMunkiez.
Two nights, eleven bags
Pip's weekend packing list began sensibly: socks, shirt, toothbrush. Then came spare socks, backup shirt, emergency toothbrush, and a smaller bag for emotionally important cables.
Milo asked whether they were leaving for two nights or establishing a settlement.
“Preparation creates freedom,” Pip said, trying to zip a suitcase with a knee.
Inside were hiking boots for a city trip, a tie for a hotel with vending machines, and a travel kettle packed inside a larger kettle for protection. In this fictional monkey adventure, luggage had become a lifestyle.
A system under pressure
At the station, Pip couldn't find the tickets. They were in the document pouch, inside the secure folder, beneath the backup document pouch.
Milo found his ticket in his pocket. Pip called this reckless.
On the train, Nina asked for a tissue. Pip proudly opened Bag Four and produced a camping towel, sewing kit, and miniature umbrella. The tissues were in Bag Nine, which was underneath Bag Four.
By the time he found them, Nina no longer needed one. The sense of achievement remained.
At the hotel, the receptionist offered to help with the luggage.
“How many rooms?” she asked.
“One.”
“For the bags, I mean.”
The one missing item
Pip unpacked enough equipment to handle a snowstorm, surprise banquet, or modest shipwreck. Then he discovered he had forgotten his pajamas.
For a moment, the room was completely silent.
Milo offered him a spare T-shirt. Pip accepted it with the dignity of an explorer rescued by someone carrying a tote bag.
The weekend was lovely. They walked, ate, and used almost none of the luggage.
On Sunday, Pip wrote a new packing rule: bring what you need.
Underneath, in smaller letters, he added: and a backup copy of the rule.
He packed it in a waterproof folder. Just in case.
